Technical Efficiency of Rice Farmers in Telangana, India: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)

It is known that inability of the farmers to exploit available production technologies results in lower efficiencies production. So, measurement technical efficiency agricultural crops developing countries like India gained renewed attention since late 1980s from an increasing number researchers. Accordingly, present study has employed Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Malmquist Total Factor Productivity Index ascertain Technical Efficiency rice productivity (2021-2022) its changes over period (2019-2020 2021- 2022) respectively Telangana, India. This was based on secondary data pertaining (output variable), fertilizer doses (NPK), seed rate, water applied organic manure (input variables). The findings revealed overall mean score across all Decision-Making Units 0.860 ranged between 0.592 1.000. Units, average, could reduce their input usage by 14 per cent still produce same level output. Further, fertilizers (60.54 kg/ha); (5.63 (234.48 mm) (3.76 t/ha) use can be reduced without affecting current productivity. indices 2021-2022) scores change, pure change scale are more than one (1.153, 1.042 1.009 respectively), unlike technological (0.983).
